The CN Lines email discussion forums links CN Lines members on the Internet and provides a forum to discuss the topics with the same scope as the CN Lines SIG overall and often more! Once someone joins the list, he has the option of receiving a copy of each message that any other member of the list sends to the list address, a daily digest of messages, or he can receive no mail and read the messages on the list's web page. No matter what method he chooses, the discussions are often fast and furious and certainly eclectic in nature. There are two lists available to interested subscribers:

CNLines-CNet
General forum for discussion on al topics CN related
CN Steam Mavens
Discussion is on CN steam era equipment and infrastructure

To subscribe to (join) the email list, visit the list web page linked above or send email to the address show below (if you are not a member of Yahoo! Groups, you will have to choose a name and password before you can subscribe on the web site).

You must have subscribed before you can post messages or receive messages from them. Be sure to use an appropriate subject line. All new members are moderated until they send out their first message. This is to prevent unwanted users and spammers from joining and sending out a spam message. As an added precaution for unwanted junk email, once a new members posts their first CN-related email and proves they are there for the participation in the group discussion and are not soliciting, the moderation status is lifted.

Moderation

CN Lines lists are not moderated in the strict Internet sense of the word. That means that once you have subscribed to the lists, any messages you post to the list are broadcast directly to the group without first being vetted by a moderator. However, there is a volunteer coordinator whose function is to moderate in the sense of keeping things on track. If anyone needs to be flamed (this is rare), he'll do it off-list. If discussions that have wandered well off-topic are threatening to overwhelm the legitimate discussions, the coordinator will make a few succinct suggestions, on- or off-list as appropriate. Experience has shown that things work very well if list members let the coordinator do his job instead of jumping in to play net cop themselves.
