The CN Steel Caboose

The CN steel caboose was manufactured in 1967. Look at the CN description of the caboose, published as the caboose was introduced into service. The exact origin of this document is not known.

The photo was taken in the CN Fort Rouge yard in Winnipeg in early August 1999. It is often used when transferring cars to and from the CN Tuxedo Intermodal yard in Winnipeg. It was accompanied by two GMD1 locomotives.

CN 79550 caboose

CN 79550 is a steel caboose built by CN at Pointe St. Charles in 1972. Small white letters on the side read "ASSIGNED TO SCOTFORD". Scotford Yard is near Fort Saskatchewan.

This photo was taken when 79550 was in Edmonton in February 1997, away from Scotford. The paint on this caboose is very badly worn.


CN 78140 caboose

CN 79550 is a steel caboose built by CN at Pointe St. Charles in sometime between 1970 and 1974. It was originally used in mainline service and modified for international service in 1989. It's now used as rider car in Western Canada.

CN 76588 is a yard caboose built by CN at the Pointe St. Charles shops in 1978.

This photo was taken in Edmonton in 1996. At the time, the windows in this car were all smashed.
