CN SD50 fleet
The CN SD50F fleet was built in 1985-87. They can all do 70 miles (113 kilometres) per hour, but are resticted to 65 miles (105 kilometres) per hour. They all have six wheel C-C trucks and dynamic brakes. They are all fully cowled with a Draper taper.

- 5418 was third unit in a consist behind SD40s 5130 and 5300, pulling a westbound intermodal train on 5 Aug 1991. At the highway crossing at Kinsella, AB, the train struck a truck carrying light crude oil. Nothing derailed, but the train crew and truck driver were all killed. 5418 suffered severe external burns and spent considerable time in repair before being returned to service. The other two locomotives burned and were retired.

- This locomotive must have had an accident at one time. One source says it was involved in a fire in Portage la Prairie on 2 Feb 1994 (details, anyone?). It has been repainted from its original zebra stripes (ZR) scheme into the CN North America (with map) (NA) scheme.

- On 31 January 1999, 5432 was trailing 5410 and followed by a dead 2452 eastbound into Jasper. One traction motor on 5432 was not working, a fact known by maintenance crews, but not by the locomotive crew. Rounding a curve coming into Jasper yard they saw 5257 and GCFX 6064 switching on the track ahead of them. They applied the dynamic brakes; these did not work fast enough, since the dead traction motor meant that the dynamic brake efficiency was reduced in the consist. The crew bailed out, the locomotives struck head on, and derailed. 5432 was repaired and returned to service.
