CN GP40 family
The CN GP40s have B-B four-wheel trucks and produce 3000 horsepower. Most are geared for 65 miles (105 kilometres) per hour.
The CN GP40 family is in two main groups:
- the original GP40s: These are narrow cab units built in 1966-67.
- the GP40-2s: These are wide cab units built in 1973-75.
Also included in this list are the two GP35s 9300 and 9301.

- At 0045 6 May 1997, CN 9429 (along with GP9 7021 and ECO1) hit a washout at mile 34.5 on the Kingston Subdivision (near Coteau du Lac, about 44 miles west of Montreal). The crew was slightly injured. CN 7021 and ECO1 ended up on their sides; 9429 however fell into the washout hole and could not be recovered. She was cut into pieces in place, and covered with cement and ballast. There was some urgency about this operation as both sides of the double track in the area were blocked by the accident.
